Disney Day Three... Animal Kingdom

We woke up early today to go to Disney's Animal Kingdom. When we arrived at the park we found that we had seriously underestimated the cold weather and froze our tushies off! We did our best to keep the girls warm and headed over to the Safari ride... It was AWESOME! We saw elephants, lions, giraffes, gazells, hippos, alligators, and many many other real live animals! It was SO much fun! We had many adventures throughout the day. We rode our first train ride, met so many characters and at the end of the day ate at the "Rainforest Cafe." It was great but Melissa was TERRIFIED of the thunderstorms that come and go while you eat. All in all, it was a wonderful, cold day!

Day Two "Ahhh... A Day of Rest"

We did not have to get up until 9:00 this morning and it was wonderful! Melissa woke me up at 7:30 to point out that the sun was out and it was now time to get up... but she soon went back to sleep and I followed shortly. The girls would have probably slept longer, but on Sundays the breakfast "goes away" at 10:30... and well, we wanted to eat! We went to the BEAUTIFUL Orlando Temple to walk around and feel the wonderful Spirit that is there. It was so peaceful and I had ALMOST forgotten how pretty everything is there. It was nice. We took a picnic lunch and Melissa and Kayla had fun dipping their fingers in the Ranch dressing instead of the carrots! I am currently sitting on the floor in the laundry room waiting for our clothes to dry so that I can go upstairs and spend some more time with my family. Ray is currently watching the girls "swim" in the bathtub since we are having some ridiculously cool weather today and the water in the "outside pool" is way to cold. All in all, today has been wonderful! Tomorrow we are off to Animal Kingdom to see the fun things there. Until tomorrow...

Disney Day One... The Adventure Begins

Our Disney Vacation actually started FRIDAY night around 11:00pm when Melissa woke up puking and puking and puking. It was EVERYWHERE!!! (Kayla slept through the WHOLE thing.) After a bath, change of clothes, change of sheets, a snack and drink, re-brushing of the teeth, and a blessing, we were all finally back in bed by 12:15. At 12:30 Kayla woke up crying and eventually went back to sleep. I think Ray gave up and just stayed up only to wake mommy up 3 hours later to get up for our trip.... Wonderful start, huh??? We left for the airport at 4:30am and arrived at 5:30am (with both girls STILL awake!) We checked in, ate some breakfast, and 2 HOURS later were on the plane. Melissa could hardly wait to "be a bird" and Kayla was a little scared of all of the sounds. Eventually we "became birds" and the girls LOVED flying so high. The trees looked like "marshmallows" and we think we say our house!! Both girls were soon asleep and Kayla cried and cried during the landing because her ears hurt... Melissa just kept asking for more gum because hers was not "working" :) We rented our car, checked into the hotel, gave up on trying to get the girls to sleep for a nap and were soon on our way to The Magic Kingdom. WOW! It was AWESOME! Kayla fell asleep as soon as we were on the Ferry and Melissa could not believe the castle was so "blue"hee hee! We met Princesses, ate Mickey Mouse ice cream, played and rode our first "roller coaster!" It's a Small World! ( WE know Grandpa LOVES that one!) The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh... THAT was fun! WE had a blast! Daddy-O was sneaky and arranged for a special dinner at the infamous Tony's Restaurant! (from "Lady and the Tramp") They decorated our table with Mickey Confetti, and made a big fuss announcing our anniversary to the WHOLE room! We had a yummy ice cream sundae after dinner. Oh, by the way... Melissa LITERALLY fell asleep standing up while waiting for our table! After dinner we headed to Walmart to buy some supplies and FINALLY returned to the hotel around 10pm where everyone CRASHED after showers. The girls were troopers. Mommy and Daddy had a blast and all in all... it was VERY successful! More updates later!

Visiting with Friends

We had SO much fun with Eliza and Sadie today! They are such good friends and we haven't seen them in so long. Enjoy our video of our day... the first picture is of all 4 girls watching the snow. They were plastered to the door for at least 5 minutes and Sadie kept commenting on how hard it was snowing!

Butterfly Angels

It has been so fun unpacking all of the Christmas stuff this year. We have so many little angel statues that people have given us over the years and Melissa can not understand why they all have wings! She has renamed them, "Butterfly Angels!"

The Girls Met Santa!

Tonight, as we were walking through the mall, it happened... Kayla yelled, "Santa!!" and there he was! He was talking to a security guard at the fence and when he heard Kayla he waved to us and drew the girls right in. He knelt down and asked the girls if they have been good. He asked if Mommy has been good and lucky for me they said yes! He then asked what they wanted for Christmas and Melissa said a cat. He asked if she wanted a real cat or a pretend cat. It was my lucky night because she said a pretend cat! He was so sweet to the girls and really took the time to talk to them (even though we didn't pay for the visit!) and they have been talking about it all night! Melissa tried to change her mind once she was with just us and say she wanted a real cat, but I told her that Santa already knows that she wants a pretend one and we probably shouldn't change her order! She said, "okay." They are in love with Santa.

Decorating the Christmas Tree...

...and dipping pretzels. We had SO much fun this past Friday making chocolate covered pretzels and decorating our Christmas Tree! The girls were SOOO cute and really made everything magical. We are so blessed. (The videos are a little dark as usual, but you will get the idea!)

Our little Indians

Our little "Indians" met Daddy at the door the other night with warm muffins to welcome him home. What a treat! Yes, that is a DIRTY shirt Kayla is wearing... She always ends up wearing more of what we are baking than what goes in the pan! They had a blast making the "head pieces" and we had fun talking about Thanksgiving... It is so fun with little ones!

"Picking" Fall Leaves

Ray took the girls out to "pick" leaves today (while Mommy was gone) for a project we are going to do. They had a blast and enjoyed telling me about all of the colors that they found. They are all about being outside! Aren't our paci girls cute?

News Flash

The reign of Halloween menace by a male deer was ended on Halloween evening by a civic minded hunter. The deer, reported to weigh 130 pounds and have an eight point rack was brought down just north of Smyrna, SC. The hunter, who wished to remain anonymous, stated that he was sitting quietly in the woods, enjoying the peace of nature, when the maniacal deer stepped into the path and challenged the man. The man, who just happened to have his rifle with him said he tried to reason with the deer, but to no avail. Left with no other option the good citizen was forced to end the deer’s Halloween spree. The deer now rests peacefully in the coolers on the front deck, awaiting further processing. To all other deer in the area, the hunter stated.. we are watching you…..

Happy Halloween 2007

Happy Halloween! Today was SO much fun! Here is a little video of our day. (and last night) We went to Eliza and Sadie's house for a party and made the CUTEST pumpkin pizzas, decorated cookies, went Trick-or-Treating, and came back home in time to make bracelets with their Grandma. How lucky to have her in town for Halloween! Yes, that is me in a Winnie the Pooh Costume. Terry wore an Eeyore one, but somehow avoided the camera! Hope you enjoy this LONG video!

The girls make dinner...

Melissa made dinner all by herself tonight. Well, she didn't actually touch the raw chicken or work the oven, but she did everything else! She is SUCH a big girl! We had a blast! (Kayla helped with the eating part...) It was so yummy! Let her know if you want the recipe.

Coloring Pumpkins

Just a cute little video of the girls coloring pumpkins... Too cute!

Playing after Art Class

This video is mostly for Aunt Laura... She said she can't believe how big Kayla is and I thought she would CROAK if she saw her running around! This is after art class at the "community center". Enjoy!

Melissa's first Ballet Class

Getting ready to leave... She said, "I am SO beautiful!" Here they are! Pictures from Melissa's first day of ballet... Isn't she cute? This was before class started and she had a hard time not looking at herself in all of those mirrors! This is a smaller room at the back of the studio and the room that we have to walk through to get to this one has a regular dance floor with the ceiling to floor mirrors. She is in heaven walking through there! She LOVES going to Ms. Kelly's class and practiced ALL week for her next class!

The Mom Song

THIS is SOO funny!

Uncle Jeremy's Football Game

While visiting Grandma and Poppa we attended one of Uncle Jeremy and Jared's football games! Uncle Jer wasn't actually able to play... (he hurt his shoulder several weeks ago and is going to physical therapy) but we enjoyed the game all the same! It didn't start until 8PM and ended around 10... the girls were troopers! Kayla really was there... she was just mostly with me and I was the one with the camera. The girls were SO cute cheering and yelling. Good times.

Melissa's Party

Melissa had her first "friend" party this past Saturday and had SO much fun! 3 of her friends came and we went on a Dora Adventure! (very exciting!) This is the LONGEST montage! Do not feel obligated to watch it... if you do, I hope that you enjoy it... we sure did!

Ray's Birthday

Ray celebrated his birthday exactly one month ago from today and it has taken me this long to figure out how to get the pictures off of our broken digital camera! We went to the children's museum for his big day (you know what a big kid he is!) and had so much fun playing with the girls. (BTW... try not to laugh too hard during the last clip, I did and M is pretty upset with me for laughing so much!) Enjoy!

Kayla's Birthday Pictures

Here they are!!! Finally after a month and a half! Enjoy...

Ahhh... the beach...

We took the girls to the beach this past Saturday and had a blast! We went with our friends Terry and David and their 2 girls. It was the first time Eliza and Sadie had been to the beach and it was fun watching them experience everything. Our camera is broken, so if you would like to see our girls and family and their girls and family, check out Terry's blog... she made a beautiful Montage of the trip and posted it on her blog. (click on the "Sugar Piezee" link to the right under "Friends and Family") I realized that I have been VERY spoiled throughout my life. I know... I know... that is hard to believe! I have taken all of the family vacations to the beach for granted I guess. The beach was actually pretty crowded. Well, not right where we were... for some reason there were heaps of people to either side of us, but we had a good 15 ft. area on either side of us. Not bad from what I hear. It isn't like Sunset Beach (except for the water... that was pretty much the same!) but still fun! After playing we went to Grandma and Grandpa's house to shower and then our families went out to Red Lobster for dinner. Yum! Endless shrimp! I just knew that I had probably gained 5 pounds, but the next morning I found that I had actually lost 1! yippee! It is a sign... I should eat shrimp more often. So, thank you to our friends! Wish all of you could have been there!

It really does happen...

During Sunday School this past Sunday several people made comments that some people are afraid to join our church because it means they may loose their income, their standing in their church, etc. This photo always makes me smile. There are some strong, valiant members of The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

They are growing up too fast!

The old saying, "It seems like only yesterday" is playing over and over in my head tonight. It seems like only yesterday that we were introducing Miss Melissa to her baby sister Kayla. They are growing up way too fast!
Terry was telling me the other day how a switch was flipped with Eliza and she just started doing all of these big girl things... I was kind of sad for her because time really does go by so quickly. Well, the past two days have been full of switch-flipping happenings with our two girls!
Miss Independent, I mean, Miss Kayla thinks that she is just as grow up as her sister and does a pretty good job keeping up with her. Today she was pushing the baby doll stroller around the house just like Melissa does and she repeatedly leaned over the edge to "check" on the baby!
We have been teaching her sign language and she is doing quite well signing different words when we ask her to. Today (after nap) we treated ourselves to small ice cream cones and I guess I was not sharing mine fast enough for Kayla because she frantically started doing the signs for more and eat! She would sign "more eat, more eat, more eat" so fast! It was the first time that she actually initiated signing and even more, put together her first sentence! Yippee for Kayla!
And my little shadow Melissa has decided that she is not a little girl any more, she is all grown up like Mommy and Aunt Ci Ci. She has already been telling everyone about her experiences as a missionary when she was big like mommy and serveda mission at the Squared Temple (Temple Square) like mommy and taught people about Jesus like mommy. It is SO sweet! She gets a very serious look on her face when she talks about Jesus and speaks kind of softly! She has also been copying EVERYTHING that I do with Kayla! She has her baby Honey and Honey miraculously does EVERYTHING that Kayla does... even throw food on the floor. It is great. So, I REALLY have to watch myself and how I behave! I guess she is my mirror for now!
I am so grateful to have my girls... and My Ray. I don't talk about him very often, but he is the greatest! I am so thankful that I moved here and agreed to have a CPR class in my living room! I have been blessed!

Our funny morning.

Visit to Grandma and Grandpa's

We went to Grandma and Grandpa's house on Sunday for Daddy's Birthday... Here is a little video of our visit.

Kayla's Scary Ride

Sunday was a big, exciting, scary day for Miss Kayla. She took her first ride in the car while facing forward!!! We should have started her with a shorter trip because she was very scared! (we drove 1 1/2 hours to G-ma and G-pa's house!!!) She sat with her teeth clenched and her hands in fists held in front of her... The only reason she looks okay in this picture is because we were still in the driveway! Melissa didn't like it either... she likes looking at her sister's face! They are so cute!

No more T.V.

No more Television... or at least very little! Ray and I have been noticing an increasingly large amount aggression and discontent in Melissa and have been thinking and praying about what to do about it for several weeks. Please do not read more into this... we try to provide her with a well balanced, loving, peaceful home (most of the time it is peaceful!!!) We do not yell, hit, argue or anything like that... Dr. Phil would probably insist that we do since we are seeing these behaviors from our 2 year old, but really, we don't! So, like I said, we have been praying about what to do and last week it came to me... cut out the television watching. What? I asked? That is insane!! She hardly watches any television... AND if I cut out all watching of t.v. how will I EVER do the dishes??? So, I questioned this answer and came out with the same response... no more television. Well, it has been just over a week and we are seeing amazing results! In nursery on Sunday Sister ___ said that she was better behaved than she has been in a long time. She has started listening to Mommy when I ask her to do things. She isn't pushing her little sister... etc. It is amazing! (We have not COMPLETELY cut out the T.V. The girls are permitted to watch 1/2 hour of something every once in a while... like "Baby Einstein" or something else "educational." How else will Kayla learn sign language? She has no interest in learning it from me!!!)

My Little Shadows

~ I overheard this conversation between Melissa and Kayla today: "Kayla, you may not eat my sandal. It may have dog poop or some other yucky stuff on it and you do not want that yucky stuff in your mouth. It isn't healthy." I have no idea where she gets these ideas from! Okay, yes I do... she is my little shadow. I REALLY have to watch what I do and say around her! At least this time it was positive!!! ~ Kayla has been walking all around the house today. She walks with her hands out in front of her like she is reading a book. It took me all day before I realized that she is copying what we do when she walks to us... we have our hands out for her to grab onto! She is too cute! We are going to have to invest in some actual gates because our make-shift gates are nothing compared to her determination! ~ The girls actually played in the playroom for almost an hour tonight without me! I was able to do the dishes AND work on Kayla's baby book... They are proving to be excellent friends.

Our Busy Day...

This morning during breakfast Melissa told me (in a very serious voice) that I needed to get some paper and a pen so that we could make a To-Do list. I immediately grabbed the items and this is the list that she gave me: Walk on the treadmill, make Kayla's Birthday cake, finger paint, put the clothes away, decorate for Kayla's birthday, play dress-up, practice riding the horse, read some books, and order a certain something (that I cannot write about) online. Whew! It was going to be a busy day!!! I often write myself to-do lists, in fact I have a whole notebook that I keep track of things in... I have become my mom!! I did not realize she even KNEW about these lists... well, I guess this proves that she REALLY does not miss a thing! This is a video with a few of the things from our "busy day"... enjoy!

Melissa: AKA Personal Trainer

This morning at breakfast I told Ray (on the phone) that I needed to walk on the Treadmill this afternoon and that I would probably let Melissa walk a bit too so that she wouldn't be scared of it. Melissa did not say anything about it at the time and just kept eating her shredded wheat. After NAP she put on her tennis shoes and asked me where mine were. When I asked her why she needed to know she replied with, "Mommy, it is time to walk on the treading mills... get you treading mills shoes on. You go get them, I will watch Kayla." I guess I wasn't moving fast enough for her because she kept after me with cute comments until I had my "treading mills" shoes on. We then proceeded to walk on the treadmill for quite a while, her walking with me, then by herself and then Kayla INSISTING that she also needed a turn. My girls are SO funny! Who knows, I might just loose weight after all!

Family Happenings

Kayla's 1st Birthday Party

Well, this one is a LONG one and mostly made so that Miss Kayla would have the memories recorded FOREVER. Feel free to watch it, but please don't feel like you MUST watch it!

Kayla is walking!

I just wanted to let everyone know that Kayla is now walking! Last night she was on Grandma and Poppa's front porch and started walking between CiCi, Laura and Grandma. She was so pleased with herself! She would take a step and pat her tummy... take a step and pat her tummy... too cute! Today she has been walking EVERYWHERE!!! 51 weeks old and walking. Amazing! BTW, we are in SC (again) for the blessing of Tia Ria's baby. I am so glad that we were able to come! Will post the pictures from Kayla's B-day party soon. Love to all!

Some pictures you may have missed this month

Another Potty nightmare...

I was actually naive enough to think that things couldn't get worse with Melissa and the potty... I was SO wrong!!! After the whole "Oprah thing" M has been VERY hesitant to go NEAR the potty. She approaches VERY slowly and does her business as quickly as she can. I do not know if she thinks she will be sucked in or what, she won't talk about it. Well, here comes the part where it gets worse... Today (and please don't ask me how) Melissa's beloved passie fell into the toilet. I won't tell you what else was in there, but in a matter of seconds, a panicked mommy (just picturing little fingers going in after it) flushed the whole bit. Boy was that the wrong thing to do! Melissa began screaming, "My Passie! My Passie! Oh, Passie, come back to me! Come back to me! Mom, it isn't coming back!!! Passie come back to me!" Go ahead, laugh. I know you are! A more seasoned mom would have probably handled that a little bit better than I did. It has now been 5 HOURS since Melissa has visited the potty.

Oprah is banished from our home!

Well, I can never watch Oprah again! Don't get me wrong, I don't watch her very often, but the past two times that I have watched have ended up being pretty traumatic for our little Melissa. Today Oprah was about getting the answers to your most burning questions... pretty interesting. One of the questions was, "Where does your poop go after you flush?" Not thinking anything of it, we proceeded to watch the answer. The guy from "Dirty Jobs" was on and showed exactly what happens to the poop that is flushed somewhere in CA... from the toilet to the sewer line to the treatment plant, etc. I looked over at Melissa and she LITERALLY had tears streaming down her cheeks and had the WORST look on her face. When I asked her what was wrong (thinking she had a boo boo or something) she said, "That is the worst thing I have ever seen!" She was SO mortified with the poop explanation that it took me about 15 minutes to calm her down!!! It was so hard not to laugh right there while it was all happening... I am laughing now! Two weeks ago Oprah was on while I was making dinner and Melissa came away from that show calling everything "sexy"... LUCKILY she has only tried her new word out at home! On a happier note, Kayla LOVES her hair! She brushes it all of the time and last night even used 2 brushes at the same time. All day today she has been showing me her hair and waiting for my, "so pretty" comments. Adorable!!! Ahh... kids are fun!

It's good to be home...

It is good to be home... however, I think the girls REALLY miss their Aunts and Uncles and Grandma and Poppa. Melissa walks around sighing these really big, sad sighs and every time Kayla talks to Poppa on the phone she blows "zoobers" into the mouthpiece. (she and Poppa did that A LOT while we were there) Evidently, Mommy is not as fun as Grandma and Poppa!

Fun times...

Hi, Everyone! Today started out like most days, M saying she misses Daddy, K biting everyone and my trying to get both girls to eat a "healthy breakfast". Nothing out of the ordinary. We played most of the morning, folded laundry and had a yummy lunch. We then piled into the car and headed to Daddy's work to drop some clothes off for him to change into later... as we were getting off the interstate we saw a homeless man holding a sign and M asked who he was and why he wasn't in a car. I explained to her that he did not have a car and that he was homeless. She asked what it means to be homeless and when I explained to her that it means he does not have a home to live in she became VERY quite. After a few moments she said, "Mommy, we need to pray for that man to have a house. Everyone needs a house. We cannot live outside. It is too hot. He needs a house to live in. You start the prayer, Mommy. I will finish it." And as I wiped away tears, I listened to the sweetest, most sincere prayer I have ever heard. My two year old angel prayed that the man would have a home and be healthy and strong and that he would not be hot. She ended her prayer and went on talking about how no one should be without a home, etc. etc.... too sweet!!! Then we went to the Children's Museum to see M's favorite purple dinosaur... yep... Barney was in town! We met up with Eliza and Sadie and their parents and another family from church and about 5million other children and watched as Barney sang and danced for about 25 minutes. Let me tell you... it was the highlight of my week. Actually, it was pretty fun. K was TERRIFIED for the first 5 minutes, but eventually she started dancing and clapping with her big sister. Sadie was fun to watch and M could not believe that Barney was actually on the stage in front of her! On the way home both girls cried and cried for Daddy and eventually went to sleep. While Mommy was in the shower M somehow got a hold of the Dora toothpaste and started chugging it!!! She started screaming and jumped in the shower with me saying that her mouth was on fire. So, for the first time EVER, I called Poison Control and spoke with a very nice nurse who assured me this was a common happening and that I should give M a LOT of calcium. Fun times. We just had snack and M didn't want ANYTHING to do with the milk or cheese... until I told her she may start puking soon if she didn't have it... She downed it. No worries, she never puked and from now on the toothpaste will be kept behind the mirror in my bathroom! Fun times. As the girls were going to bed K bit a big chunk out of my arm. If her teeth do not come in soon, I will be the one crying!!! So, as you can see... even the normal days turn into an adventure! Love to all! ~Nikki

Holy Cow!

Tonight at dinner Melissa, Kayla and I were talking about what we were eating and I told Melissa that she needed to TRY her beef. She asked some questions about it and I explained that beef came from cows like the milk that we drink (which she calls 'cows milk' every time!) So, after MUCH thought, she tried a piece... She made a horrible face and declared, "I want to give my meat back to the cow!" (heeheehee)

As we were preparing to go to bed I said, "Melissa, we REALLY need to repaint our toenails!" She then said, "Silly Mommy! We don't PAINT our toenails... we only paint walls! You know, with the big brush. Like with orange and blue and black. You are so silly! We don't paint our toes!" She then went into an even LONGER explanation telling me why we don't paint our toes and why we only paint the walls.

Did I mention that she corrects me ALL OF THE TIME?

Kayla Drumming on a Drum

So, I am trying to post some things that have happened recently....... Last weekend Kayla decided that her new favorite thing to do is drum on our make-shift gate. She is rather good! (Sorry it is so dark!)

My First Attempt

Okay... After MUCH prompting from our friends Ray has finally fixed our computer so that I can join the world of blogging. Yippee!!! I am actually pretty excited! So, here is my first attempt...
I am going to try to catch Grandma and Poppa and Grandma and Grandpa up on this past week.
* Today we swam in the pool for the first time this season... Kayla was a bit scared and didn't like the cold water and Melissa repeatedly tried to climb out of her float stating, "I remember how to do it!" (Mommy wasn't as confident with her memory)
* Saturday Kayla learned to say "uh-oh!" and passionately says it every time she drops something. She finds reasons to drop things so that she can say it which was okay until Sunday School today... it was a bit disruptive. Our little family REALLY enjoyed our visit with Bubba, Melissa and Andy. We are looking forward to December!
*Friday Melissa earned a reward for sleeping in her bed 4 nights in a row and received a new Dora bath toy. Needless to say, the girls took a bath right after breakfast! She was so proud of herself! (2 of those nights she went to sleep without mommy or daddy in the room!)
*Thursday the girls were delighted to wake up and find that Daddy was home to spend the day with us. We LOVE Tuesdays and Thursdays! Melissa tried her best to explain to Daddy what a "blog" was. She is so smart.
Well, I think that is enough for my first "post". Hope it isn't too boring... Will write more and figure out how to post pictures and videos next time.
